Fluid Dynamic Bearings

As there is a demand for more computer memory capacity and reading speed, MinebeaMitsumi responded to that by developing a new technology called fluid dynamic bearing to replace ball bearing that were used in spindle motor for HDD. Fluid dynamic bearing uses special lubricant oil. While spinning, the oil pressure helps preventing contact as well as reducing friction. With the oil that is made to suit with particular motor, this fluid dynamic bearing is a quiet running bearing that is able to support more rotational speed, which increased up to 7200 – 15000 rpm, and more computer memory.
In 2017, fluid dynamic bearing manufacturing is ready to increase its productivity for the use of spindle motor in other product besides HDD, e.g. virtual reality (VR).
